Folly Farm Diary

Our first guests

Resident

A party of 17 Japanese visitors were the first overnight guests at the Folly Farm Centre in early July. The group comes from a number of villages and small towns on the island of Kyushu, – the southernmost major island of Japan – around the city of Kumamoto. They are farmers, planners, local government executives, owners of traditional Japanese inns etc and they were interested to see how we have developed rural tourism in Britain. The group were in the UK for 6 days during which time they visited the Cotswolds, the Severn Valley (including the Severn Valley Railway), a number of Herefordshire Villages, and ended up at the Folly Farm Centre, as the first residents in the Bothies. It went superbly – The group will be led by Professor Shinji Aoki, a rural sociologist from the University of Toyo in Tokyo.

They all slept well and before they left they said ” we love this English farm with its piglets!”

I am a trust member and would like to say knowing folly farm before restoration that what the trust have achieved is formidable in the extreme and I am filled with admiration for your achievments on folly farm and the chance for others to experience it is brilliant I was with natureworks at the farm and it was lovely then but you have enhanced it in my humble opinion. Wishing you every success in your endeavours. Graham Bentley
