Congratulations! We are delighted to be shortlisted as a finalist in the ‘Sustainable Tourism’ category of the Bristol Tourism and Hospitality Awards 2011. Competition this year has been extremely fierce and Folly Farm Centre has done exceptionally well to make the shortlist.
Each year all Living Seas officers from across The Wildlife Trusts come together at Folly Farm for a 2 day residential training workshop. Over the course of the 2 days officers are provided with the opportunity to network, meet new staff and share ideas and best practice. Training and open discussion sessions are organised to ensure that all staff are up to speed with latest conservation news, thinking and policy development. This valuable session ensures that all staff feel part of the wider Living Seas team and know who to contact in other Trusts and nationally.
Imagine hosting your special celebration in lovingly restored 18th century Somerset buildings in the heart of a nature reserve, with breath-taking views over Chew Valley lake and the Mendip hills.
Learning the future now- What is the best way to equip young people to build a sustainable world? As the government cuts its funding for the sustainability agenda in schools while maintaining its commitment to 80% reduction in carbon emissions by 2050, a debate is growing about whether education in schools is really preparing young people for a low-carbon world. What skills and knowledge will this rising generation need by 2030 to cope with the impact of climate change, contested resources and energy constraints?
The Bath and North East Somerset Disabled Workers Group members enjoyed time away from the pressures at work last week by having a team away-day at Folly Farm.
IUCN, International Union for Conservation of Nature, helps the world find pragmatic solutions to our most pressing environment and development challenges. It supports scientific research, manages field projects all over the world and brings governments, non-government organizations, United Nations agencies, companies and local communities together to develop and implement policy, laws and best practice.
On Friday 28th January Johnny de Mearns facilitated a team building day for parents of children attending the St Pauls Children’s Centre in Bristol. The day was initiated by Vandana Sharma of Bristol City Council’s Learning Communities Team and the day’s activities; icebreakers, team development activities and Land Art creation were devised and delivered by Johnny. This wonderfully diverse group of mothers enjoyed an excellent creche facility, fabulous food and the glorious countryside around Folly Farm as well as being supported by the beautiful buildings and sensitive staff there. The day has proved to be a great success generating as it has a self-led Parents Forum and new governors being nominated already! To top it all…The Sun came out to smile on it all.
The Pony & Trap in Chew Magna, Somerset, has been awarded a prestigious Michelin star in the Michelin guide Great Britain & Ireland 2011.
As one of our preferred caterers, The Pony and Trap have always delivered sumptuous local food when catering for events at Folly Farm. It was no surprise to hear that they have received a Michelin star for their foodie-passion, so congratulations to Josh Eggleton and his team for achieving this prestigious accolade.
